Mosquito Control
Why is mosquito control so important? Mosquito control protects the public and their animals from vector-borne diseases. It reduces nuisance levels of mosquitoes and enhances the quality of life for those who work in and enjoy the outdoors. Good mosquito control provides the ability to respond to complaints and to vector-borne disease outbreaks with a minimal impact on the environment.
Mosquito adults feed on flower nectar, juices, and decaying matter for flight energy. The larvae are filter feeders of organic particulates. The larval and pupal stages can be found in a variety of aquatic habitats including: discarded containers, tires, temporary woodland pools, raincans, tree and crab holes, salt marshes, and irrigation ditches.
Mosquitoes locate bloodhosts by scent, sight and heat. From 100 feet away (30 meters) mosquitoes can smell your scent, especially the carbon dioxide (CO2) you exhale. Biting flies are even better; they can smell their animals and humans from 300 feet (100 meters) away. Because CO2 is present in the atmosphere (plants take in CO2 and give off oxygen), mosquitoes respond to higher-than-normal concentrations, especially when the CO2 is mixed with host-odor. They follow your scent upwind, and can see you at a distance of about 30 feet (10 meters).
At Pronto, we know the importance of protecting your family. Mosquitoes are a serious threat. Our control approach offers
control through three primary methods:
1) Habitat Modification
Removing areas that favor mosquito breeding including areas
of standing water, and vegetation growth that allows "extra"
resting areas for adults seeking a blood meal.
2) Treatment of areas of standing water that cannot be corrected
via larvacides that effect control before the larva can pupate
in preparation to become adult mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes do not feed solely on blood. The female mosquito requires a blood meal for development of her eggs.
3) Treatment of bushes, low hanging limbs, and
other vegetation that allow adult mosquitos
to rest in wait near family recreation areas
such as pools, decks, and patios provide long
lasting residual control of adults, preventing
their attacks on you and your family.
