Termite Treatment Methods
Liquid Treatments
For over 50 years, liquid treatments have been the standard for subterranean termite control in Georgia. From the old days
of "Life Long Residuals" such as Chlordane, now a known carcinogen, through the "virtually no residual" days of Dursban,
also removed from public use due to health concerns, Liquid Treatments have come a long, long way.
Fortunately, the rugged road led to a pot of gold! Undetectible Liquids are as the name says, undetectible to termites and unlike their predecessors, are also non-repellent! While liquids such as Chlordane and Dursban attempted to protect structures by repelling the foraging termites away, Undetectible termiticides stand guard around the structure, unknown to the approaching termite workers searching for wood, and allow , them to pass right into the undetectible, non-repellent barrier, and stopping them in their tracks.
There are a couple of well-marketed Undetectibles, Termidor, made by BASF, and Premise, made by Bayer, the same folks
that make the aspirins. Termidor is highly advertised on television, and, while it is a fine product, BASF does tend to pass
the cost of those ads onto you. Premise, is not quite as "well-knowned", but is also a fine product that acts in much the same manner as Termidor, and it's well known manufacturer speaks for itself. Premise tends to cost slightly less than Termidor.
Recently made available to the public is generic Premise, the active ingredient imidacloprid, in a non-televised, non-branded version. However, it is the exact same product as Premise, much as you find when you purchase generic prescription medicine.
Soon to come, Generic Termidor, which, just as generic premise, will be the same exact active ingredient for a lower cost to you.
BAIT SYSTEMS
Often called traps, or termite cans, Termite Baits are just that, Bait. Not unlike a worm you'd use to bait a fish hook, the plastic station of a system is the termite "hook", and the inserts are the "worm". Baits take advantage of the termites natural instinct to feed their colony and keep their Queen reproducing. To date, there are no "attractants" used to draw foraging workers to the stations, but through there "mad" weaving around searching for a food source, frequently they "bump into" the bait station.
At Pronto we use bait systems as a tool to aid our undetectible liquid treatment. Taking advantage of every tool available just makes good sense. You wouldn't lock your windows at night and leave the doors open! Bait Systems simply provide another alarm system to alert us to termite activity BEFORE any damage is done, protecting you and your environment.
